Zum Alten Calwer in Calw

Highly recommended! Chef & cook Thomas (a Calwer original ?) and his team always come up with creative, surprising ideas and conjure up delicious dishes on the plate. Whether in the "Alt-Calw" or in the associated "Bistro Maultäschle" ~ both are more than worth a visit.

We had Christmas dinner picked up and ate at home. Difficult to say what I liked best, but soup and salmon I like a bit more.

Simply great! My husband and I went there for the first time today! The staff is very nice. You just feel comfortable here. Recommended.

First of all: You shouldn't come here with a lot of hunger, because it takes a long time to get something on the table. We arrived at 8 p.m. and the outside area was still quite busy, but guests were drinking and not eating. When we were allowed to sit down, it took a good 10min until a card found its way to us and another 10min until the order was taken. I asked the waitress if it would be possible to get the hand-scraped spaetzle instead of potatoes with the roast. The answer: "Hm I don't know if that works, depends on how much the chef / chef is stressed ..." okay ... let's just stand there. After the order, it took 20 minutes for the side salads to arrive ... then after another 30 minutes (already after 9 p.m.) the waitress came and asked if it would be okay if we got the spaetzle instead of fried potatoes, because they were out (woman wanted Fried potatoes) did you actually need 50 minutes for this determination? At 9:30 p.m. the two plates reached us: cold sauce, spaetzle with a slight residual heat and that on a cold plate. Only the meat was at core temperature and the jaws were too. The taste of the food was great ... only for cold food I don't like coming to a restaurant and waiting for 1.5 hours. Price / performance ratio is unfortunately not right here ....

Wanted to eat some lentils with spaetzle at the end of the day with my husband allerdings .... but after 50 minutes we lost our appetite for it ? ....... we paid the entire bill and went hungry. .. too bad ..... would have liked to try the food .... but these waiting times are extremely extreme for a restaurant that is not fully staffed ........... prices are also quite salted ?

Very good Swabian dishes. Menu always seasonally different with surprising, but always successful combinations. Not cheap, but the quality is right, the ambience too, the service is great and it's worth it. Homemade dumplings in all imaginable variations are offered upstairs in the bistro.

Service: friendly, takes time. Ambience: nice and cozy, but a star. Food: waited a long time; Portion: small piece of salmon with sauce, 5 potato halves, very manageable. The inside of the salmon was raw, the sauce was very salty. Price 20, - / serving. For this price performance you expect something better! Never come back

Nice, quiet ambience - we were there during the week - extremely delicious and value for money absolutely justified.

POSETIVE. friendly Get a seat without registering. NEGATIVE. Long waiting times Salmon with potatoes 25 euros price ok BUT Salmon not through. Sauce very, very cold. You get better cooked in private. RESULT Then 3x toilet visits Not coming back.

Chef is really nice and everything was good. Dishes was little salty though. But it just my taste.

Very delicious, great ambience, cozy, invites you to linger. Very nice service, and the cook himself shows up, finds time for a small talk and greets his guests (: The kitchen is very German and Swabian.

Saturday evening ... The restaurant was very busy, so a bit noisy. The food was very good! Full marks! Unfortunately the waiting time owed to the full restaurant was very long!

A very nice and modern atmosphere. The service staff is very friendly, well trained and serves very quickly even at peak times. The chef and at the same time the chef is very loving and open with his guests, I like that very much The local Swabian dishes are delicious and the prices are justified. Very good and keep it up.

I travel the world as a speaker and author. I came here to see Calw as its noted as a beautiful holiday town and the home of my writing heroes, Hermann Hesse. I saw the reviews for Zum Alten Calw and my wife and I decided to try with medium expectations. We were stunned. You are greeted by an energetic waiter and he is so proud of Zum Alten you would think the waiter owned it. Zum Alten is stunning and extremely warm and cozy. the chef brought out the entree and desert personally and spent a moment talking about his 26 years here. He and the staff are very proud of everything about this amazing place and they should be. Every touch of the Zum Alten is 5***** from the hot chocolate and sprudel water, soup and entree are all amazing, I can't possibly exclaim enough about this location. I've lived in this part of Germany for 4.5 years and nothing compares. Thanks and we will be back soon - maybe tomorrow!
